Szczeg\u00f3lna uwaga zostanie po\u015bwi\u0119cona narz\u0119dziu ESCAPE (Expert System for Characterisation using AMDIS Plus Excel), opracowanemu przez spo\u0142eczno\u015b\u0107 naukow\u0105 dziedzictwa kulturowego z my\u015bl\u0105 o usprawnieniu analizy danych Py-GC-MS.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1455\" data-end=\"1697\">Z perspektywy wsp\u00f3\u0142czesnej nauki o dziedzictwie, Py-GC-MS stanowi nieodzowny element podej\u015b\u0107 multidyscyplinarnych, integruj\u0105c wiedz\u0119 chemiczn\u0105, konserwatorsk\u0105 i kuratorsk\u0105 w celu pog\u0142\u0119bionego zrozumienia sk\u0142adu i historii obiekt\u00f3w muzealnych.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oto pe\u0142na informacja o wyk\u0142adzie:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For the 3rd edition of the\u00a0<em>Current Topics in Heritage Science<\/em>\u00a0lecture series, organized by the emerging professionals of the E-RIHS\u00a0<em>HS Academy<\/em>, the sixth lecture will be delivered on\u00a0<strong>June 19, 2025<\/strong>, at 3 pm (CEST), by Jennifer Poulin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The lecture\u00a0<strong>\u201cPy-GC-MS in Heritage Science: An Important Investigative Tool for the Analysis of Organic Materials\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0will offers an overview of Py-GC-MS in heritage science, from its historical background and instrumentation to its role in multi-analytical studies, with case studies from the Canadian Conservation Institute and a focus on the ESCAPE tool for data analysis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Speaker:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Jennifer Poulin<\/strong>\u00a0is a Senior Conservation Scientist at the Canadian Conservation Institute (CCI), located in Ottawa. Her educational background is in chemistry, and she holds a BSc (honours) from Acadia University and an MSc from Dalhousie University. She has worked in the analysis of natural products since 1996 and began work at the CCI in 2003. Her main research interests centre on the development of direct inlet pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (DIP-GC-MS) for use on heritage micro-samples, and the identification of natural and synthetic dyes using GC-MS. She employs her GC-MS expertise in the characterisation of Canadian amber, natural and synthetic paint-binding media, organic residues on archaeological objects, pesticides, modern materials, and varnishes and lacquers. Jennifer is a board member of the Mass Spectrometry and Chromatography Users\u2019 Group (MaSC, ICOM-CC Scientific Research WG) and hosted the 2019 MaSC meeting and workshops. She is currently planning the Dyes in History and Archaeology 44 (DHA) conference that will be held in Ottawa in October 2025.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abstract\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"88\" data-end=\"755\">The lecture <em data-start=\"100\" data-end=\"203\">\u201cPy-GC-MS in Heritage Science: An Important Investigative Tool for the Analysis of Organic Materials\u201d<\/em> provides an overview of the application of pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Py-GC-MS) in the field of heritage science. The presentation will trace the historical development of the technique, explain its scientific principles and instrumentation, and examine its role within multi-analytical research strategies. Py-GC-MS enables the sensitive and specific analysis of both polymeric and non-polymerised organic materials, making it a powerful tool for the investigation of complex mixtures commonly found in cultural heritage objects.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"88\" data-end=\"755\">Drawing on case studies from the Canadian Conservation Institute, the lecture will highlight the use of Py-GC-MS in the analysis of paint media, varnishes, archaeological materials, plastics, and natural polymers from museum collections.
