Céline Allain wygłosi referat pod tytułem „Emergency Preparedness of Library Collections”.

Będzie on poświęcony strategiom i dobrym praktykom w zakresie ochrony kolekcji bibliotecznych oraz szybkiego reagowania na nagłe zagrożenia.

The first lecture of the 3rd Edition of the HS Academy „Current Topics in Heritage Science” series will be delivered on January 23rd, 2025, at 3 pm (CET), by Céline Allain, the Emergence preparedness coordinator at the National Library of France. The lecture will provide the attendees with insight into strategies and best practices for safeguarding library collections and prompt response against emergencies.

Speaker:

Céline Allain is an expert in conservation and Emergency Preparedness and coordinates emergency preparedness and response at the National Library of France. She initiated and coordinated the draft of ISO 21110 – Information and Documentation Emergency Preparedness and Response and participated in the revision of several standards in the conservation field.

At the request of the Ministry of Culture in France, she takes part in the development of technical national capacity in the field of emergency situations, contributing to the dissemination of publications and training materials for managing risks in emergency situations. Céline served as secretary of the Preservation and Conservation section at IFLA and is currently a mentor for this section, in charge of IFLA’s standard on Emergency preparedness and planning.

Abstract 

Libraries are custodians of irreplaceable cultural and intellectual heritage, making their protection during emergencies critical.  There are significant challenges in safeguarding library collections during emergencies. This lecture examines key preparedness strategies, focusing on the development of different types of emergency plans tailored to specific needs and situations (flood, fire, etc.). A case study on flood preparedness will be shown to highlight practical approaches to protect and ensure the resilience of valuable library collections.
